Nintendo Marketing Letter

Acabei de enviar, com meu Inglês macarrônico, o seguinte e-mail para a Nintendo:

In order to get an extra-charged end of generation to Wii, I suggest Nintendo Wii packages to be more appealing, plus I would like to suggest a strategy to motivate Wii owner to migrate to Wii U.

NINTENDO WII SPECIAL CHRISTMAS PACKS

Well, first things first. Here are a bunch o Nintendo Wii and games tie-ins that may give the Christmas boost to the console:

Mushroom Pack
- Nintendo Wii (with remote plus)
- New Super Mario Bros Wii
- Super Mario Galaxy

Star Pack
- Nintendo Wii (with remote plus)
- Mario Kart Wii (plus wheel)
- Super Mario Galaxy 2

Fitness Resort Pack
- Nintendo Wii (with remote plus)
- Wii Sports Resort
- Wii Fit Plus (with balance board)

Zelda Pack
- Nintendo Wii (with remote plus) (all golden, if possible)
- The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
- The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Metroid Pack
- Nintendo Wii (with remote plus) (all metallic dark blue or orange with red base and green LEDs instead of blue)
- Metroid Prime Trilogy
- Metroid Other M

Fighters Pack
- Nintendo Wii (with remote plus AND a pro controller)
- Punch Out!
- Capcom Vs. Tatsunoko

Cult Classics Pack
- Nintendo Wii (with remote plus)
- Resident Evil IV Wii
- Okami

These are some of the possible combinations of games that should fit well with the tastes of those willing to play the great Nintendo classics of this generation but are still on the fence regarding Wii. It’s like giving a $ 100 bonus in games, but as the majority – if not all – of these games already paid themselves it would be a minor investment for Nintendo (of course, every pack would have a specially designed box, each one of a specific color, all of them beautiful and eye-catching, creating a pattern that differs from Nintendo Wii’s normal White packaging. Metallic colors would be nice as well as a “special pack” logo to tie the promotion). It could also use a slogan along the lines of “this Christmas, Nintendo has a pack that suits your tree”

WII TO WII U TRASITION DEALS

To motivate or secure that a large number of Wii owners will migrate to the next system, three special lunch deals will be offered to them:

1 – Wii owners will be able buy the system with a $ 50 discount;
2 – In buying two lunch titles, Wii owners will get a third one for free;
3 – Wii owners can get 2 extra remote plus controllers;

In order to get these deals, Wii owners should become Nintendo Club members and registry their systems, then choose one of the options, receive the coupon by e-mail with a code, print them and take it to the store in order to get it.

To spread the word about these deals, add on to the main marketing campaign would be made. In big media advertising, Nintendo would only mention at the end of each ad something along these lines: former Nintendo Wii owners get special deals on Wii U. Learn more on Nintendo channel or Nintendo.com. Beyond traditional media, Nintendo could direct specific internet ads specifically directed to Wii owners (not only in Wii related, since Wii’s have a deep penetration in a wide-range of segments), arrangements could be made with online stores so to would allow Wii owners to post the code sent by Nintendo Club in the buying or pre-order process.

Beyond that – and even more important – Nintendo Channel on Wii would temporarily show an ad in its “access button” (on the channels screen) regarding the deals and leading to a whole Wii U portal created to teach Wii owners the new possibilities and capabilities of fun and graphics the new console offers. You got to realize that one of the main communication spaces you have is your own very console.

One more thing has to be said about this transition strategy: fidelity. I believe, growing the fidelity bounds between consumers and company is one of the main goals Nintendo has to seek. Although the fidelity of Nintendo fans has always been strong it has somehow grow thinner in the later years, so to strengthen these bonds is of ultimate importance. Futhermore, there are a lot of users that came to know Nintendo through Wii and are not yet faithful to the brand, so rewarding those who invested in the prior system through a set of exclusive offers is an opportunity that should not be missed. If only 10% of the owners adhere to the promotions, you will already guarantee a huge number in sales at the expense of marginal profit losses.

P.S.: I put the Wii Remote Plus as an obligatory item in Wii Christmas packs because later adopters of Wii will be able to use it with Wii U.

XXXXX

Agora, esperarei a resposta (pois a Nintendo sempre responde os e-mails que lhe são enviados) com a certeza de que ele não terá nenhum impacto, a não ser minha sensação de dever cumprido! :)
